Export in Excel with .xml format?

I'm testing the product with phpGrid-lite version.
Exporting to an Excel file is required, but when implemented according to the sample page, the file extension is set to xml. Is it because this is the Lite version? Is it possible to export to normal Excel file format(xls or xlsx)?
Solution
In phpGrid Lite (free), Excel export format is Office openXML (.xml), thus with file extension .xml. More about this format: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Open_XML. It is perfectly legit Excel format. However, Excel does show a warning upon opening the open xml file.
In paid version, besides openXML, you have also choice of *native* Excel (.xlsx), which is compatible to Microsoft Excel 2007 and up, without any warning when opening the file and also with heading info.
